Voluntary Service Programme (VSP)

In 2016-17, we introduced the Bradfield Voluntary Service Programme (VSP), which is designed for Shell pupils who opt out of the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) in the Summer Term. The programme runs for three terms starting Summer Term in the Shell and ends during the Lent Term in the Fifth Form.

We believe that for many young people there should be a great willingness to volunteer and be part of volunteering programmes, which give much needed support and benefit to those less fortunate than ourselves.

This element of service links very nicely with the Bradfield Diploma and is also a useful life skill developing leadership, teamwork and empathy for others.

2016-17 VSP options

Option 1: Young Leaders Sports Award – National accredited award in the organisation and running of a sports event. This is a classroom and practical based course run over three weeks, culminating in pupils organising and running an external sports competition.

Option 2: Rushall Farm Volunteer Programme – Pupils volunteer with the John Simmonds trust based at Rushall Farm. The volunteers experience a varied programme based around the countryside and allows them to work with young children from the surrounding area.

Option 3: Rectory Garden Restoration Project – ‘Garden SOS’ sees pupils work as a small group undertaking a restoration project within the College grounds. The group uses College archive pictures to restore a hidden Victorian garden to its former glory.

Option 4: Ed Club – a new project aimed at creating a link with the developing world. The group will do a variety of things including fundraising, providing IT equipment and then creating an educational link with a village in Africa.

Option 5: Primary Schools Outreach Volunteers – a small project with a group of pupils creating an ‘Outreach Newsletter’ under the supervision of the Community Benefit office. These pupils report on and produce a half-termly newsletter on Bradfield’s charity and community-based work.

Option 6: St Andrews’ Church Volunteer Programme – Voluntary group who will work with the local parish church in order to ensure that the now closed village church and its grounds are maintained and improved upon.

Option 7: Recycling Programme – A new group who will be responsible for developing a recycling programme across the College. A pupil led group will be encouraged to think of new ideas and initiatives and then implement these throughout the College.
