Trips and Expeditions

The College encourages a wide range of trips, both subject-based and co-curricular, which take place regularly throughout the year.

Biology and Geography Field Trips are integral parts of those courses and pupils have visited a variety of locations both in the UK and abroad. Subjects such as Business Studies, Film Studies, Art, History of Art, Economics, Politics, Classics, History and Modern Languages all offer regular trips; some are specialised and aimed at particular year groups whilst others are open to all ages. Destinations have included South Africa, the USA, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. Each year the Drama department sends a production to the Edinburgh Festival.

Every year the Choir tours abroad with a concert programme of church music; recent venues have included Poland, Slovenia and Italy, and typically about forty pupils participate in these trips.

The College’s sports teams also tour regularly to locations as varied as Sri Lanka, Barbados and Malaysia. In addition, pupils who participate in both the CCF and Duke of Edinburgh Award schemes habitually enjoy the opportunity to test their mettle in locations such as Cornwall, Norway and Bavaria among others.

Usually, there is also an annual trekking expedition. Building on a series of trips to Kenya about a decade ago, Bradfield groups have more recently climbed Ras Dashen, the highest mountain in Ethiopia, ascended to 18,000 feet on Mount Chimborazo in Ecuador and have completed some very demanding treks in the High Atlas mountains and some remote regions of the Carpathians.

Every year we take our Shell Spanish pupils to the stunning Gredos mountains near Madrid. They are immersed in the language and the culture whilst taking part in a wide variety of activities.

During the 2016 trip, the pupils did archery, cooking, t-shirt painting and were given a bullfighting demonstration by the resident matador. They also toured the picturesque city of Salamanca as well as the capital, Madrid.
